Dame Mary Archer
An academic by background, having taught chemistry in Oxford, London and Cambridge. She chaired Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from 2002 to 2012, and is currently chairman of Imperial College Health Partners’ Expert Advisory Board and West Suffolk CCG’s Patients in Partnership programme and a trustee of the UK Stem Cell Foundation. Mary was awarded the Energy Institute’s Melchett Medal in 2002 and the Eva Philbin Award of the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland in 2007, and appointed DBE for services to the NHS in 2012.
Prof Alan Barrell
Entrepreneur in Residence at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School and a member of the investment group Cambridge Angels. He chairs Eagle Genomics and sits on the boards of MedTech International and Bactest. His career spans forty years in sales, marketing, general management and investment in the healthcare and industrial electronics industries. He has served successively as Managing Director, UK, North Europe and Africa for Baxter Healthcare Inc., CEO of Domino Printing Sciences plc, Group Managing Director of Willett International Ltd and Managing Partner of Cambridge Gateway Fund.
Co-founder of Mangrove Capital Partners and early investor in Skype. In 2008, he co- founded Genii Capital, a private investment management and financial advisory firm. As well as Genii Capital, Gérard sits on the board of Wix, Zink Imaging, Lotus F1 Team, Lotus Group International and WooMe, as well as being a member of the Advisory Council for Miami University Business School. He is a founder of the Act Mangrove Charity foundation promoting education for underdeveloped countries.
Dr Meera Arumugam
Meera has been involved in biomedical research in Cambridge since 2002, starting with her PhD in biomedical materials from the University of Cambridge. Her research interests lie mainly in cell therapy, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. She sits on the CHL board representing Palmdale Ventures Ltd, an investment vehicle of the Arumugam family. Amongst other board seats, she also sits on the board of Pneumacare Ltd as an Investor Director.
Senior management / Advisory
Qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in 1992, and worked for ICL and GSK in business planning and financial management/controller roles with European and global responsibilities. He has worked as a CFO for many technology companies, mostly in life sciences technology, and some in the IT space; the majority of these businesses were VC- or PE-backed. Angus is deeply involved in corporate and asset acquisition and sale activities and has been instrumental in securing funding for more than 15 companies.
Practising GP with a public health background. Until April 2013 he was the National Clinical Lead for Shared Decision Making at the UK Department of Health, as well as working as Associate Medical Director for NHS Midlands and East. Steven has a long-standing interest in long-term conditions and in particular care planning, self-care support and Shared Decision Making. He is committed to supporting patients to be more involved and supported in their care and in decisions about their care.
